Dear Parents/Guardians;

As May days roll in we are hitting the ground running! There is so much on the calendar, I hardly know where to begin!

Thanks to our amazing School Council, Elder Shirley will be with us this week. Each class will get to spend 45 minutes with her outside on our school property. We are so lucky to have such a huge school ground to share with our community. Elder Shirley will begin each session with a smudge. She will be creating the smoke for the smudge but will not be passing that to students. Her culture values the smudge as an opportunity to be grateful for the things we have and for the opportunity to gather together. Students will have a chance to reflect on something they are grateful for to begin the session. After that students will be learning how to hoop dance and will have a visit from everyone's favourite, Lemon Bear. Thank you again to our School Council for providing this experience for our students.

Swimming continues this week. It seems that students are loving the chance to get in the pool. They certainly are tired afterwards! A huge shout out to all the parent volunteers who are helping kids get in and out of the change room. We couldn't do it without you. Also, huge thanks to Mrs. T and Mme. Smyth for the hours of organization they have put in to making swimming a success. It is a huge undertaking on top of their teaching loads. So grateful for you all.

Tomorrow, our grade 3/4/5 Chorale students are attending the Calgary Performing Arts Festival in the Leacock Theatre at Mount Royal College. They are set to perform at 12:45 pm. Thanks to M. Chapman for organizing this opportunity for students. Also, thank you to Rosanna Redd for helping with accompaniment! Break a leg Chorale!

Wednesday, May 7th is Hats on for Mental health day. Please encourage your child to wear a hat on Wednesday to show support for all those struggling with mental health issues. This month's mental health theme is "Unmasking mental health" in an attempt to bring mental health issues to light and make talking about them safe for all.

May 16th is a non-instructional day so there is no school for students. Staff will be focused on well-being that day in line with mental health week/month. We will be looking at universal strategies we can employ in the classroom to support student well-being as well as ways to support our own well-being. There is also no school on Monday, May 19th for Victoria Day.

Our next School Council meeting is Wednesday, May 21st at 6:30 pm. Please join us in person in the Learning Commons or online at Join the meeting now

Book Fair is May 20-26th. Thank you in advance for your support with this. All funds raised go back into buying new books and resources for our Learning Commons.

In-Line Skating starts May 23rd for the whole school! Thanks again to our amazing School Council for making this happen. A schedule will be forthcoming so that you know when your child will be participating. This is a great skill for students to learn and we are lucky to have the opportunity.

There is fun lunch coming up on May 22nd and a special treat day on May 30th so still time to get your orders in at healthyhunger.ca.

Finally, our Welcome to Kindergarten event is Thursday, May 29th from 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm. If you have not registered your child for kindergarten yet, please do so asap as we will be doing the draw for morning or afternoon kindergarten soon.

There are a myriad of field trips this month as well, too many to mention but watch your inbox for more information.

As always, if you have questions or concerns please don't hesitate to reach out to me at ljscullion@cbe.ab.ca. The next two months are going to fly by. May the 4th be with you!
