Weekly message |Message de la semaine December 4-8

It’s hard to believe it is December already! The year is flying by. It has been so fun getting to know your children. They have had lots of jokes for me daily!

Thank you so much to all the families who participated in providing food for the teacher dinner during Parent-Teacher conferences. The food was delicious and there was so much variety and choice. It was a lovely treat,  we are very grateful.

Last Thursday our School Council hosted a Parent's Night Out with Dr. Allan Donsky. It was a wonderful evening and we are happy to announce that together with the School Councils of Eric Harvie, TMC and Bowness High School, we have paid and organized an Online Live Presentation with Dr. Donsky for you to join from the comfort of your home.  Dr. Donsky will be joining us on Monday, December 4th at 6:30pm.  The Teams Link is as follows:  https://teams.live.com/meet/9315685068988?p=8mza9oLQNKrrWuBv

Although our Veteran's Food Bank Drive has officially wrapped up, they are not able to pick up the boxes until December. You are still able to send donations with your child. The boxes are all located by the main office for drop off. Thank you for the many donations we have already received.

École Tuscany School is taking part in a school wide initiative called, “Problem of the Week” or  “Problème de la Semaine”. Every student in the building is involved in working through these math problems. Some teachers have noted that already, after just 3 weeks, students are becoming more proficient at using math strategies to solve the problem. Here is an example of the K-2 problem from week #1:

En français : Pendant ses vacances d’été, M. Comeau a mangé 10 sucettes glacées. Il a mangé des sucettes glacées à la cerise et des sucettes glacées à la framboise bleue. S’il a mangé au moins 1 sucette glacée à la cerise et 1 sucette glacée à la framboise bleue, quelles sont toutes les combinaisons de saveurs de sucettes glacées possibles qu’il aurait pu manger?

In english: Over the summer M. Comeau ate 10 popsicles. He ate cherry popsicles and blue raspberry popsicles. If he ate at least one cherry popsicle and at least one blue raspberry popsicle, what are all of the possible combinations of popsicle flavors he could have eaten?

Students can submit their answers to the problem at the end of the week and are then entered in a draw. Four winners are selected each week, two from French immersion and two from English to receive a certificate and a sticker. It’s a great way to build math confidence and a culture where math is seen as fun.

Mme. Roussy and Ms. Glowacki are starting a coding club for grade 1 and 2 students this Wednesday, December 6th at lunchtime. Students will bring their lunch to the learning commons at 11:30 am and will be using Code.org to learn some coding skills. The first group will attend for the 3 Wednesdays before the winter break. If there are more students who would like to participate then another group will run after the break.

Thank you to all who ordered Purdy’s chocolates as part of the School Council fundraiser. Pick up will be this Thursday, December 7th. Please watch for details about pick up coming in the next couple days.

School Council is sponsoring another traffic safety contest about signs around our school. Submissions will be due by December 18th.  More details to follow!

Just a reminder to all parents/guardians/caregivers, there are no dogs allowed on the school compound or field at any time, but especially not when students are present. Thank you so much for your help with this.
