Dear Parents/Guardians,
We’ve had a busy few weeks with swimming, Chorale festival, the grade 3 French Immersion students going to William Aberhart for a time capsule project, grade 5 students to Weaselhead, Teacher’s Pet soapstone carving and coding for the grade 1/2 English classes and now this week with Elder Shirley visiting. There is a great deal more to come as the year winds to an end.
School Council
We wanted to say a huge thank you to our amazing School Council, especially the Teacher Appreciation Committee, for the coffee cart, amazing donuts and lunch for Staff Association Appreciation week and National Principal’s Day. We so appreciate your kindness.
Thank you also to all the parents who volunteered to help with swimming at Sir Winston Churchill pool. The students really enjoyed the swimming lessons and with parent and teacher support the whole thing ran like a well oiled machine! Thank you to all involved for creating this important experience for our students.
We have all really enjoyed having Elder Shirley here at our school this week. It is too bad that we couldn’t be at the Coulee due to the weather but we have enjoyed the learning, the hoop dancing and Lemon Bear none the less! Thank you to School Council again for supporting this fabulous learning opportunity!
Weekly Updates
The Read-a-thon is in full swing. Completed Bingo sheets are due May 15. Paired with that is a Book Fair that will begin next week, May 15, and run until May 24. Some of the prizes for reading will be coupons for the book fair. Students can also purchase items the week of May 21-24. We will require some volunteers to help with the Book Fair. If you have some time to help out, please sign up!
May 27 to June 13 Alien In-line will be coming to our school! Thanks to the generous support of School Council, students in Kindergarten, Grade 1, Grade 2 and EES students will all participate in 4 classes delivered by Alien In-line that will lead them through a progression of inline skating skills and engagement in active games that allow students to utilize these skills. Please keep an eye out for communication from your child’s teacher in the coming weeks for the dates that their class will be participating in the Alien Inline skating program.
Alien In-Line provides protective gear for each student (knee pads, elbow pads, wrist guards, helmet) however for hygiene reasons it is encouraged that students bring their own helmet to school if possible for use during the program. Bike, skateboard, and hockey helmets with a safety certification sticker attached (e.g. CSA, CPSC, ANSI, Snell B-95, ASTM F-1446 or F-1447) and in good condition are all acceptable. Students are also invited to bring in other protective gear (knee pads, elbow pads and wrist guards) and their own inline skates if they would like. Please make sure that all equipment that is brought to school is clearly labelled with your child’s name on it.
We are looking for volunteers to support our students during their Aline In-line classes. If you are interested in volunteering please sign up!
Kindergarten
Just a reminder to parents of our kindergarten students or those parents who have caregivers that bring kindergarten students to school. We do not provide supervision for your kindergarten aged children over the lunch hour as our lunchroom supervisors are looking after the grade 1-5 students already. If you are staying at the school after the morning class or arriving early for the afternoon class, we would ask that you take your kindergarten children to the community playground which is south of the other play structures during the lunch time from 11:30 AM – 12:10 PM. The other play spots are reserved for our grade 1-5 students to use during their lunch recess. Thank you so much for your cooperation.
Field Trips
There are lots of field trips and activities going on this month and next. Please check your MyCBE account for any outstanding fees and pay those prior to the end of the year. If you have any questions or concerns about any of your outstanding fees, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
Our next School Council meeting is tomorrow, May 9, at 6:30 PM. You can join us in person at the school or online at the following link:
Have a great rest of your week!
